Today's message is a lighthearted one, with an interesting question. I'm excited to share that I've reached a new milestone-350 subscribers, a number I've been working towards for a few weeks. I know in the world of Substack, this may seem modest, but perhaps not considering I've put more effort into my writing than promoting my publication (more on this later). Regardless, seeing this milestone on my dashboard was a delightful moment.
And get this: My new subscriber appears to be young. She looks cute as a button, and under her name, it says Daddy's girl with an email address that doesn't match her name. So, my mind draws a picture of a young girl who loves reading and a parent overseeing her choices.
For the sake of this post, let's assume I'm correct. And, of course, we all know my ideas can be so off the mark that they're not even funny. But questions are raised just at the thought.
How do I show up if I know a child is reading my work? Does that fact change how and what I write about?
If the answer is yes, it's only yes insofar as more care might be taken to write from the heart, avoid inciteful comments, and promote positivity and hope. I see that as a win since these are all measures that adult readers can also use.
If you have any thoughts or experiences to share, I'd love to hear them in the comments.
And a warm welcome to you, Cathrine. Your subscription has brought my total to 350, and I couldn't be more grateful. Thank you for joining our community!
Way to go, dear Sue. Our world needs kindness and empathy; you spread both so well in your blog posts. Thank you! <3
Congratulations!
