Monday morning cup of thoughts
last Friday's post a few days late... Sammie and Scott's wedding
(I began writing this post Wednesday morning the 25th)
This morning, as the fog drifted through the canyon, our small spaceship plummeted to Earth after flying through the Universe at warp speeds for the last month.
After two precious weeks with Jordan and Brooke, we dropped them off at the airport in the dark morning hours. On our way home, we stopped along Highway 49 to take photos of the blessing greeting us shortly after sunrise in the canyon (above).
As I write this a few hours later, the rain is falling, the first fire of the season is burning in our fireplace, and two sets of wedding photos have arrived in our inboxes in the last 24 hours, waiting to be treasured. That's a lot of blessings for one little spaceship.
I am sharing Sammie and Scott's wedding this week, and a finale to our great adventures which will post next week.
Sammie and Scott's wedding was as picturesque as Amy and Michael's. They wedded at Nestldown in Los Gatos, which, hands down, is the most gorgeous wedding venue I've ever seen (of course, excluding my consuegros’ home 🥰)
The grounds are heavenly, shrouded in tall redwoods, ferns, hydrangeas, azaleas, and rhododendrons, just a bit of the beautiful foliage growing there.
Nestldown began as a family home built and nurtured into quite the dream. I understand that at some point, the family moved and, in the aftermath, allowed it to become an event venue. Thankfully for us…
I don’t think there was a dry eye in the house as Rick walked Sammie down a meandering log staircase descending into the depths of an exquisite redwood grove with the sun streaming through the trees.
Rick was among those crying as he navigated the stairs; I’m so proud of this man I'm fortunate to call my husband.
The reception provided time to spend with cherished family and friends. Rick’s son Matt arrived from Norway with his sweet companion Vanya; what a blessing to meet her and spend time with Matt. We partied with our nieces and nephews, Cassie and Jeff, along with Aaron and Heather, who traveled from our neck of the woods.
Much like Amy's wedding, we enjoyed the reception, dancing the night away after a delicious meal and entertaining speeches.
Rick and I feel so blessed that our girls have married incredible, caring men. I couldn’t help but consider more than once how difficult it would be if we didn't feel this way. I sent my thanks to the heavens more times than I can count in the last few weeks.
Next week, the final post of our October celebrations, a 50-year class reunion, and a few thoughts about the importance of our loved ones in life celebrations.
Arriving at the close of three weeks of celebrations, in contrast, the world has offered so much to mourn.
There is a moment of stillness where my tears subside enough to inhale deeply
It is a moment where I find the courage to lift my smiling face to the heavens in gratitude for my blessings
A moment to catch up with all the grief that has transpired while I celebrated
A moment to gather my faith and pass it along to those in need
A moment to gather my faith
A moment to gather
A moment
What a lovely setting, Sue. Hope they have many happy years together
Sue, I've got tears in my eyes - this is such a delightful read, and the pictures are absolutely stunning! Thank you so much for sharing such a beautiful occasion with us.
Your poem is beautiful. What perfect words to conclude with.
