Thank goodness for authors of children's books. They can help shape a future generation's thinking. In addition, they remind the adults reading to their children about what is really important in life.
One of my favorite children's books on my coffee table, available for my sweet nieces Zoe and Ashlyn, and waiting for my grandchildren is The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse by Charlie Mackesy. Charlie's book weaves wisdom throughout every single page. You'll likely read more passages in future posts, but for today…
"'What is the bravest thing you've ever said?' asked the boy.
"'Help,' said the horse."
Every time I read that, I choke up. It's so hard to ask for help. It shouldn't be. Especially given that most of us love to help another in need. I'm not sure why we don't extend that kindness to ourselves. But we can always change.
My goal moving forward into my senior years is to gain comfort in asking for help because, let's face it, I will need it at some point.
Thank you, Charlie, for reminding me that asking for help is okay.
A very sweet cousin gave this book to me after Steve’s passing. It took me a while, but it has become one of my favorite books of all. I got my grand-daughters the illustrated child’s version which they love about equally to the original. Love this post💗
So true, there is no shame in asking fir help when one truly needs it♥️
