This is beautiful, Sue. Sadly, when we moved to this property three years ago, it had been cleared. We planted over thirty Cypress trees. While I won't be around to see them grow into their full splendor, I am witnessing their growth. They make me so happy.
Thank you, Paulette! Oh, 30 cypress trees, wow, that's impressive. I hope to see them one day. One of the nice surprises from this post is readers sharing with me stories of their trees. I love it! 💕
Planting trees is a huge part of Judaism. Man is likened to a tree in the Talmud and there’s even a New Year celebration of trees the 15th of Shevat. 🌳🥰
Gosh, I'd forgotten that holiday. Thank you for reminding me. I just added it to my Google calendar as a yearly reminder. Tree pose is one of my favorite poses to include in my classes. 🥰
I love this! In qigong I learned a movement called "Dancing with the Trees" in which you circulate energy between yourself and a tree. I stop to do it sometimes with my favorite trees, it's so beautiful. We breathe what they exhale, they breathe what we exhale.
I love that there is a specific movement honoring and circulating the energy between you and a tree. I am so aware of the energy and love placing my palm against the bark. So much more honor in a specific movement.
Can't believe I can't find a video! It's really easy actually. You stand facing the tree and step forward with one foot so you have a split stance. Imagine there's a big wheel and you are on one side of it and the tree is on the other. Use your arms to "turn the wheel" from the bottom, up through the tree, around the top and back down through your body, with a small weight shift towards the tree when you breathe out and circle up from the ground, and a shift back when you breathe in and circle back down through yourself. Not sure if that makes sense! If I ever find a video I will send it to you.
Oh wow, I didn't know that. I've only taken a few qigong classes and actually plan to take one next week. I will have to ask the teacher about dancing with the trees. I can't wait!
We have also planted a number of trees on our small residential lot. Five to be exact along with a very large Maple tree that was already here when we moved in. I love what they do for the environment and our health.
thank you for these wonderful inspiring words this morning. I needed them. nature, too, is my anchor. I needed this reminder. one small act at a time...that's what is ours to do.
Delightful! I fly a lot so I plant a lot of trees back on my farm to try and mitigate my carbon load - things being how they are maybe I should plant even more. A lovely read - inspiring and thank you Sue and Leslie!
What a beautiful weaving of wise women's voices, and thank you, Sue, for originating it. It gives me hope to hear you all honoring your terraphilia, my word for our species' intrinsic connection to and affection for this earth and web of lives with whom we share the planet. Hearing and seeing humans practice our cell-deep connection to this planet gives me hope. Not the passive kind, the kind that involves each of us giving our light to this world in a way that makes positive change, that blesses us all. Thank you!
Thank you, Susan, for sharing your kind sentiments. I just subscribed to your website as I'm very interested to learn more about terraphilia. I'll meet you in the comments!
Hi Jill, I read it just recently--definitely a tree book. I like the way he mixes truth, fiction, fantasy--yet I felt the historical truth of so much of it.
Thank you @Emese-Réka Fromm for the restack!
my pleasure - loved the post!
Thank you, so glad you enjoyed it.

I hope you do, too, Sue! Yes, it's a bonus to your post.

Thank you so much! I'll search myself online, but if I can't find anything, I'll ask my teacher next week. Love to learn about this!!!

Yes! The tree pose! We are truly connected to trees.

I can't imagine a world without trees. I'm trying to remember where the maple tree is, out front?
It’s by the driveway.
A gorgeous and uplifting post, thanks Sue . I have planted a lot of trees and that is so rewarding 💖 and is a gift to the future.
Thank you, Susan!

Thank you Laura for reading and sharing your thoughts! 💕
To plant trees, good deeds.
To plan a shade for children.
Counterpoint to greed.
So true Marisol
Absolutely, Marisol. Thanks for sharing. 💕

We can never have enough trees! Thank you for reading and your comments!

Thank you, Susan. A 'beautiful weaving' is perfect description for Sue's post, responding to voices all around us.
Thank you, Leslie. It was a joy to share your thoughts and sentiments.

Tried reading the book The Overstory? It's a tree book!
No, but I will! Thank you for recommending it!

It’s now on my list!
Oh, I can't wait to read it.
