Monday morning cup of thoughts
playing with the lyrics from James Taylor's You Can Close your Eyes
Leaning into this new week with gratitude, our house was filled with love and laughter this weekend. My son Jordan and his best buddy Brooke have been home for a visit. Our friends, the Klooses, Sanchezes, and Linneys, were also up for the weekend.
It won't be long before another day
We gonna have a good time
And no one's gonna take that time away
You can stay as long as you like
I’ve been awake only an hour and have already been reminded three times about the importance of gratitude from other Substack writers as well as my friend Tracey who shared a video of James Taylor and his son Henry singing “You Can Close Your Eyes” in her Sunday morning Agape Love Message. I will share the link below.
Oh, the sun is surely sinking down
But the moon is slowly rising
So this old world must still be spinning round
And I still love you
Our house will quiet down after today, our simple routines replacing the energy of the busy weekend. I will return to fighting the ants as they invade from tiny crevices throughout the house. I will turn on the AC to block out the heat. I will likely stress about some inane thing or feel anger about circumstances that feel out of my control. I may struggle with a sad memory or miss a dear friend no longer with me.
But, as Michael Mohr reminds me, I will also remember how fortunate I am.
I will add to that an understanding that my actions largely dictate the experiences in my life, Joyce Wycoff’s message below.
Thank you, Tracey, for sharing this beautiful song from James Taylor and his son Henry. This pairs so well with the two posts from this morning.
In Sue's joyful post this morning, she says, "I’ve been awake only an hour and have already been reminded three times about the importance of gratitude from other Substack writers ... " That seems to be the way Substack is creeping into my daily routines, adding information ... wisdom ... inspiration ... in ways long sought in other places which fell short. It's somewhat like opening a mystery gift bag from a clairvoyant Santa ... you never know what you'll get but, somehow, it will always be what you want and need. Thanks, Sue ... thanks Substack.
Yay for gratitude! I too had an amazing weekend with our two toddler grandsons who slept over. Their mom and dad came in the morning and we went out boating to a beautiful island and beach combed, hiked and swam in the ocean. Family, love, laughter and being outside in the sunshine. Today is recovery day and catching up on reading and writing. Thanks for sharing your reflections.
