Reading your tales is like reading a good book. I loved how your story made me feel good and also gave me pause to remember things I have not thought of for decades! My mom taught me to sew freshman high school year. No home economics class allowed for this college prep daughter. The first dress I made I cut out two left arms and sewed them even though I could tell it was wrong. I thought I would sew more often but frankly I was not good at it. So I sit here and research my ancestors. I think I get the same pleasure out of doing it as you do your sewing. It is a fabulous thing to leave my family. PS: getting to know Rick is fun. He definitely sounds like a keeper.

Thank you so much, Vicki, for your kind words! I'm glad you are enjoying my tales, and also that you are reminded of your own memories. Sewing is definitely not for everyone. It comes with a great deal of trial and error! I love that you are researching your family tree and leaving that information for your children and their children.

And yes, Rick is definitely a keeper 💞

I'm not crying - you're crying. Actually, this absolutely BEAUTIFUL story did bring tears to my eyes. I can feel the love you have for sewing (and your mom and Rick) through this story. You are such a tender soul. Thank you for sharing!

That’s lovely! My mom sewed, I think she loved it. I know enough to hem pants and sew simple things for the house. I’ve made myself some winter photography gear and a water resistant skirt for sitting on the dump ground in the mornings. I got a new machine a few years ago, made for beginners, but omg what a difference from the 20+ yr old hand me down I had!

Yes, the upgrades on the machines are amazing. This is going to take me some time to learn, but I am looking forward to it.

I wish you lived closer - my mom left a literal room full of fabric when she died. My dad hasn't been ready to start moving that stuff out yet but when we do, some quilter somewhere should be happy.

Sue, I was thrilled to see how happy and excited you were when you purchased your machine, you pretty much had me crying! What a wonderful day that was. I am looking forward to helping you with your embroidery projects, because there is definitely a learning curve. I am still learning and have had my machine for a year and half. Thank you for letting me be a part of your journey.

What a great story. So fun to see the connection of old and new times. It looks like Ron B? I learned to sew working on my Airframe and Power Plant mechanic license sewing a fabric wing. I still like to sew things every once in awhile. Can’t wait to see some pictures of your new projects.

Close, Mike Dutto. My son also enjoys sewing. It's a great hobby. I'll definitely share some projects going forward. I have to learn how to use this machine first. I've been informed it's a computer that can sew, not a sewing machine. There might be a learning curve :)

What a beautiful story. It brought memories of sitting in your family room at your first house in Burlingame while you were sewing and I was hand stitching a hem of a dress I had made. I am so thankful for our many years of friendship and all the wonderful times we spent together. Thank you for stirring up some great old memories. Love you my friend.

Oh my gosh, I had forgotten that. Sewing is the perfect project to do with friends, talking about life or just working quietly together.

Love you too, Lynn.💞

Oh Sue, how exciting! I am still using my old faithful Sears Kenmore machine my parents gave to me for high school graduation. It weights two tons and still does a great job! But a new machine... one can always dream! Sew glad you are continuing what is one of my first loves :-)

Yes, my original machine finally died in the last few years. It was a great machine. The one I bought probably 20 years ago still works, just needs a little tuning up. I will keep that as a back-up. Wish you were here to sew with! 💞
