This week I had the blessing of enjoying lunch with two of my three grade school friends1 in Vacaville which is a midpoint between our homes, after which I spent the remainder of the day with my oldest friend who I met in kindergarten, who coincidentally lives in Vacaville.
Driving home I began creating this post in my mind, a celebration of life-long friends. I feel much as I did beginning my last series. This story cannot be told in one post.
So I ask myself, why wouldn’t I tell the whole story? A half story is far less interesting, and most importantly, doesn’t allow for healing, which we are always doing every step of the way.
So here we go, Part 1, The Beginning. This initial chapter I have fun fantasizing about higher beings. Other than God and the Archangels, what I write about is true to my knowledge.
God and the Archangels gather to consider the upcoming life of Suzanne Marie Wright, who will become known affectionately as Suzy Wright. Their role is not just to observe, but to guide and protect her throughout her journey.
As with all upcoming incarnations, the group plans and strategizes endlessly about how best to equip Suzy. It is well known that souls choosing to spend a lifetime in the human form have their work cut out for them. And Suzy is no exception. She will face the challenges of growing up in a troubled household, dealing with her parents' issues, and finding her own path in life.
Suzy has chosen to join two lovely but terribly damaged souls, Don and Helen, who have recently met. Don is 48. Helen is ten years younger. Helen has recently ended an extremely volatile marriage to Jack, a man whose mental illness has made living with him any longer a dangerous proposition. After threatening to kill her, she flees the marriage, going into hiding in the tiny town of Brisbane, California.
Some might say she meets Don too early to consider entering a romantic relationship. But we all know how strong the human pull is to connect. Helen has been lonely for far too long, and she is heartbroken for more reasons than she will ever tell another living soul.
They meet at the Brisbane Inn, a local bar, hungry for connection.
Life has not been kind to Don. Studying the violin and saxophone as a young boy, he becomes an accomplished musician. Sadly, he loses his ability to play music after being severely injured in a car accident in his early 30s.
Don takes refuge in alcohol to numb the pain of his loss. By the time Don and Helen meet, he has married and divorced four times. His history of verbal and physical abuse when intoxicated precedes him.
Helen confesses to Don her sorrow over never having conceived. Among Don's positive attributes is an unusual ability to manifest what he puts his mind to. He convinces Helen that they will have that baby she dreams of. He also declares that the baby will be a girl named Suzy, whose nickname will become Sweet Sue.
Against Helen's better judgment, she succumbs to his appeal. He is, after all, a handsome, seemingly responsible man with a good sense of humor. Within months, she finds herself pregnant. Unfortunately, she has already met Don's demons by this time and understands that life will be difficult married to Don.
But Helen is a true heart who puts her best interests aside because Don has made good on his promise to provide her with a child. She will stay the course, marry Don, tolerate his abusive nature, and numb her pain with alcohol. She will do her best to be a loving, kind mother, but her depression will take its toll on everyone. Don and Helen will remain unhappily married until Don passes at 81.
God and the angels have nine months to brainstorm the best ways to assist Suzy in her upcoming incarnation. They often meet down the stairs in a small clearing beneath the ancient trees, sitting around their favorite koa wood table. The grove is quiet, with only the nearby babbling brook. Sunshine filters down upon them as they begin the initial planning.
Archangel Michael speaks first.
What our girl will need more than anything during her youth as the only child of Don and Helen is a dedicated group of earth angels, individuals who will be strategically placed in her life to provide her with guidance and support. Of course, we'll be here in cases of emergency, but she needs a team she can count on in her daily life, earth angels in the form of friends. Don and Helen will not be educating her about God, heaven, or angels, so her ability to look to us for guidance or faith will be limited. We must guard against her feeling like she's on her own.
We must assign the best of the best to this team of friends.
All heads at the table nod in agreement.
Archangel Gabriel chimes in, reminding everyone how unusually emotional this spirit incarnating is even in the heavenly plane. With his deep understanding of emotions, he stresses the importance of Suzy's emotional well-being. He suggests that Suzy must be surrounded by light to stay grounded and inspired, a sentiment that resonates with everyone at the table.
Archangel Sandalphon adds a final piece to the plan.
We must ensure that nature and animals surround her daily to nurture her spirit. A pet is essential to an only child.
Again, no one disagrees.
God and the Angels will continue to meet, their commitment unwavering, until Suzy's birth on November 12, 1955. They will ensure that every aspect of Suzy's life is carefully considered and planned for. As Suzy takes her first breath, the group will rest assured that they have done everything in their power to set the stage for her life.
The rest will be up to her and her angels.
Next week.
One of my three grade school friends Pam Gardiner was unable to join us for lunch as her husband was undergoing medical treatment.
I LOVE this. I can’t wait to read more. It brought happy tears to my eyes remembering the hours we spent together in our search for spiritual knowledge. I love you and the sweet memories you bring into my life.
Oh gosh, Sue, such an extraordinary post, and a terrific read! Can't wait for the next part. x
