This is a message written by my father Scott. Thank you Sue, we love you oh so much.

Thank you for the wonderful comments. Diana (Andy’s Mom) and I are so grateful for Andy’s remarkable recovery. I really appreciate Jordan’s contribution to Andy’s recouperation. During the hospital time and since, Jordan has been so kind and comforting to all of us. He is truly a wonderful friend to our entire family.

As my retired doctor best friend said, “it is no less than a miracle Andy survived and recovered from his accident.” Andy has devoted the past five years to recovering from his traumatic brain injury. Di and I are so amazed and proud of him. He has focused on returning to pre-accident Andy (i.e. funny, caring, and inspired). Jordan has truly contributed to Andy’s return to awesomeness.

Reading your message brought back some tears. It is joyous to be on this side of that crummy time. As one parent to another skateboarder parent…listen up: Do not let your child skateboard without a helmet! No helmet; no skateboard.

Much love, Scott (Andy’s proud Dad)

This is a beautiful piece. This week I was taking care of a neighbor's dog. She would sit beside me and beg for more massage. The minute my hand stopped she would look back at me in fear. I could see how my hands took her somewhere she wasn't often. She even stopped barking in my midst... I think she liked what my hands could do that much. I found this spot on her head that absolutely took her to another place. It reminded me of when I gave scalp and head massages to stressed executives and creative types in the entertainment field. It is amazing to me how we can be overwhelmed and just five minutes of some touch to our head, and a gentle nudging on the occipital ridge delivers a second wind to any and every body.

Thank you for taking the time to share this. We all have a great gift in touch, very much underused! Your story reminds me of the sweetest rabbit I met at my son's farm in Kauai this last April. I rubbed his little head between his big floppy ears and he would close his eyes, looking so dreamy. It was the cutest thing. I couldn't get enough of rubbing that little guy's head. I will look forward to reading your blog!

I read this story again and I want to give you credit for being such a brave mom. Your ability to stretch and give your son the lead that interested him the most and gave him such a precious life with a wondrously deep and meaningful friendship. Nothing wayward about you! You completely directed your skills and sensitivity towards your son's heart and soul. I honor you for going beyond your comfort zone so your son could follow that which truly ignited his most unique and challenging calling.

Not all moms can do what you have done. Most moms aren't capable of going beyond their comfort zone. Or they give lip service, pretending to be supportive but in little bits and pieces chip away at their child's confidence so their offspring's bravery won't up... (let me be cliche here) "upset the apple cart."

I am so grateful you've been able to develop such a meaningful relationship with your 'boy' and your 'girl'. What I'd give for even a few moments like you shared with Jordan. You know my situation, I have to take deep breathes sometimes, for me. This is an excellent post, Sue, reminding all of us, on this journey called life, many lessons about healing are presented to us, often in unexpected moments, how and what we do with them reveals new doors, windows and the 'next' lessons. And so growth manifest....

Thank you Andy for sharing your father's message. And thank you Scott for sharing your heartfelt comments about your experience. Your comment about my post bringing tears doesn't surprise me. I'm crying as I respond to you. Life is so doggone hard at times, and then it circles back around to surprise us with its amazing grace. Our boys connected for good reason, they share a spirit, a kindness, and humor-- a winning hand. I hope to meet you one day. In the meantime, enjoy your family.

Returning your love,

Sue
