I have too much to share about the last few weeks in one post. I’d lose you early on. I will divide up my stories. Give a listen to Daniela’s beautiful performance of La Vie En Rose to set the tone.
From beginning to end, Amy’s wedding day was a dream.
Amy’s (now) brother-in-law Dave played “La Vie En Rose” on his violin as Ron and I walked Amy down the aisle. According to Wikitionary.org, directly translated La Vie En Rose essentially means life in pink, seeing life through rose-colored glasses; living with an attitude or outlook of positivity, trying to see beauty in the everyday like you do when you first fall in love.
From beginning to end, the day was a dream.
Sunrise brought showers which lasted until noon. We welcomed the rain; they say it’s good luck if it rains on your wedding day. It was easy to feel happy about the rain as both mother and daughter adore a rainy day.
By 1:00 the sun made her appearance drying the puddles, but not producing much humidity. The sun sparkled on the water as Amy and Michael exchanged vows.
After photos, we welcomed our guests during cocktail hour, followed by wining and dining, delivering our speeches toasting Michael and Amy, and dancing the night away under our starlit tent nestled under a star-filled sky.
From beginning to end, the day was a dream.
Watching Amy and Michael move through their wedding day left no room for doubt that my girl is in good hands. And sharing the experience of Amy writing her vows for Michael made it clear how much my daughter loves this man.
Sharing a bit of my speech—
Bringing children into this world is the most vulnerable act we can do in life. If we’re fortunate we have the gift of loving our children each and every day pouring our heart and soul into them, but as they become adults we must learn to let go and trust another to take our place…
Someone who will hopefully love them as much as we do
Someone who will nurture and protect them in our stead
Someone who will treat them with kindness and honesty
Someone who will lift and encourage them throughout the years.
It’s a tall order.
Michael, you have made my job as well as Ron’s as easy as it’s going to get.
Hold me close and hold me fast. The magic spell you cast, this is la vie en rose.
While we enjoyed our dream-filled day, Hamas militants were launching an unprecedented cross-border attack into Israel.
When you press me to your heart
I’m in a world apart
A world where roses bloom
And when you speak, angels sing from above
Everyday words seem to turn into love songs
Our blended family includes many of Jewish heritage. My Substack buddy Patricia Meier who writes My Weird and Wonderful Life said it so beautifully last Monday in her comment on my post,
Truly, borders are imaginary and possessions are fleeting. All we truly have is love and our experiences.
Patricia’s comment points out just how important the special moments in our lives are. They buoy us in times of trouble. Our swollen hearts are holding close all those grieving while we linger in a world where roses bloom.
When you kiss me heaven sighs and though I close my eyes I see la vie en rose
La vie en rose (English) lyrics
Hold me close and hold me fast
The magic spell you cast
This is la vie en rose
When you kiss me heaven sighs
And though I close my eyes
I see la vie en rose
When you press me to your heart
I'm in a world apart
A world where roses bloom
And when you speak, angels sing from above
Everyday words seem to turn into love songs
Give your heart and soul to me
And life will always be
La vie en rose
I thought that love was just a word
They sang about in songs I heard
It took your kisses to reveal
That I was wrong, and love is real
Hold me close and hold me fast
The magic spell you cast
This is la vie en rose
When you kiss me heaven sighs
And though I close my eyes
I see la vie en rose
When you press me to your heart
I'm in a world apart
A world where roses bloom
And when you speak, angels sing from above
Everyday words seem to turn into love songs
Give your heart and soul to me
And life will always be
La vie en rose
How incredibly lovely! Thank you for sharing your family's special day with us.
Okay, tears while reading this. You and Amy look absolutely stunning! Looks like it was a beautiful day for a beautiful couple. I wish much happiness to Amy and Michael.
