As Sue knows, I was widowed at age 41. My husband Ron died of cancer at age 46. One of the last things he said to me before h died was he realized that the only thing that mattered in life was who you love and who loved you back. It is a gift I take with me everyday.

Thank you for this profound post! If we are not to waste this precious opportunity that all of us who are still here, alive and well in healthy bodies and non demented minds, we need to be aware that everything we love and care about is temporary...

My teachers often recommended keeping the awareness that each passing day is one day gone and closer to the time when we will have to give up these bodies we hold so dear and have no choice but to leave even our greatest beloved and this world behind.

this meditation on our own coming death was taught so we would recognize and make full use of our lives to train with realized people and take up our own spiritual path with complete and unwavering dedication.
